Art Deco House Extension
Shortlisted for the 2018 Waverley Design Awards
The clients wished to create an extension which dramatically contrasts with their existing house and they were inspired to create an Art Deco design. The extension provides a sitting area and study space which flows from the existing kitchen. The existing kitchen underwent a complete makeover; internal and external walls were knocked down, a new beautiful larder space was added, and floor to ceiling cupboards provided a multitude of storage options.
A light natural stone is used on the floor throughout, helping the spaces flow seamlessly into one another. A new utility room with a vaulted ceiling was built in a darker corner of the site. Natural light now floods the rooms through the new crittal doors, glazed roof lanterns and a series of windows that frame views of the garden. A cosy window seat is positioned near the woodburning stove to provide the perfect reading area on a wintery afternoon.
